One of my pet peeves with the original DeLorme Explorer was that it has a built-in battery, I primarily use it on long backcountry hikes of up to a week's duration and track at frequent intervals - even if I turn it off each time I stop for the night it still runs out of power eventually. For my Garmin GPS receivers I simply carry a set of replacement batteries (inserting fresh ones each morning) and wish I could do the same for the Explorer. Yes, you can carry a solar panel/charger, but I don't want that hassle (and it isn't very sunny here anyway).
While the initial Garmin release of the Explorer shared this attribute of the DeLorme product I was hopeful the Mini would use AA or AAA batteries - I am greatly disappointed that it doesn't.
