Texts to other numbers work, but not AT&T. Hasn’t worked for past 4 days of my backpacking trip. Happen to have LTE here and saw all my missed iMessages - no one received my Garmin texts. This is a huge issue and makes my subscription worthless.

Not helpful, but seems to be an old known problem:
Btw: add AT&T in the forum search and you will get stuff to read from the last years…
I thought that was done, but it seems to keep coming back
I have found using SMS is not reliable. I think it has to do with how cell carriers deal with satellite traffic. I've gone to messaging via email and it is much more reliable.
Typically (but not always) this is because the message contains a shortened link to the web page which shows your location. You can disable this from the settings in the lower right corner of the Account tab at explore.garmin.com. Disable the short link to see if that helps.
Either way, open a support ticket. Garmin typically works with the carrier to fix the problem, whatever it is. But only if somebody opens a ticket.
In the meantime, use email as Like2Hikei suggests.
