Hello Garminers. I wanted to share an issue I was having with my GPSMAP 86sci that occurred after the recent Version 9.00 Firmware Update.
iSSUE: System crashes and requires hard reboot (long-press power button type)
STEPS TO REPRODUCE PROBLEM:
1) Open Geocaching App on 86sci.
2) Select a Cache from the Map or List.
3) Screen will appear with the Cache Map Location and the Cache Title at the Top of the Page and "GO" Button Bar on Bottom of Screen with No Geocache Description Visible.
4) System will lock at this point with no button input possible.
5) Long-Press Power Button, Holding Until Unit Reboots.
WORKAROUND AFTER REBOOT
1) Turn 86sci Bluetooth On (If Not On Already After Reboot.)
2) Open Garmin Connect and Make Sure 86sci Is Connected to Phone.
3) Open 86sci Geocaching App.
4) Select MENU (KEY) > Geocaching Setup > Geocaching Live > Remove Live Data > Select YES on Popup Window
5) Re-Download Live Data.
6) Turn Unit Off Completely.
7) Turn On.
8) Unit Should Be Able to Display Geocaches at List or Map Screens, and be able To Be Routed To Them on Roads, or Directly!
NOTES OF INTEREST
i use Geocaching Swiss Army Knife (GSAK) to upload caches to my 86sci. The "geocaches.ggz" file (saved on the unit in ~/Garmin/Geocaches/geocaches.ggz) may, or may not, have a corrupt part of the database preventing proper processing and parsing of the .ggz cache data.
Downloading some caches from Geocaching Live (via Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi. I tested using Bluetooth and Garmin Connect to my iPhone XR. I'm Just Assuming Wi-Fi would also work.)
I was able to solve the above issue using this method.
Warm Regards From,
Firefishe
