Is there a limit to the number of tracking points in a route

I am planning to link an inReach Mini with the Overlander Device on a 43 day, 5,000km, 4x4 trip through Tanzania and Zambia starting next month. I plan to sign up to an Expedition Freedom Plan for the duration of my trip. I will not have to worry about battery life because the Mini will be in my vehicle and powered by the vehicle most of the time. Ideally I would like to track my whole trip as a single route. On the assumption that I will be mobile for 8 hours a day, if I track every minute I am mobile, I will have about 500 track points per day and 22,500 for the whole trip. Can I have this many or will my trip stop recording at a point?

  • I don't know the answer to this. I have it in my head that the Mini maxes out at 20,000 logged (as opposed to sent) track points. But I cannot find any supporting documentation for this. The manual says that the log "wraps" when full, overwriting the oldest points. It also says that it retains a "lower-detail tracking line." I have no idea what that means, unless it's talking about the points sent via Iridium?

Hopefully somebody with more complete information will weigh in here.

Note: It won't stop recording. But because of the wrap, you will lose the beginning of the trip.
