62s not detected on OS X Big Sur

I can't get my 62s detected as a mass storage device on Mac OS X Big Sur. The 62s is on software version 6.30. It's plugged in via USB2 -> USBC adapter on a 2018 MacBook Pro. I've tried forcing the 62s to enter "mass storage mode" but it still does not work. It's in Spanner mode.

In theory, what you are doing ought to work. However, there might be a timing issue - Mac might detect the device in GPS mode before you get a chance to switch to mass storage mode?

Try putting it into something besides spanner mode. On Windows, at least, choosing MTP (media transfer protocol) guarantees recognition as a mass storage device. I don't know how (or if) Macs handle MTP.

Hmm, my 62s does not have MTP mode. Also, the device doesn't get detected on Windows 10 either.

If you have not already done so, try a different cable. Some cables are charging only (no data transfer). Or the cable might be defective.

I tried a different cable and it didn't work. I also just found out from my old emails that I had this exact same issue in 2015, and Garmin replaced my entire unit. This is a refurb unit they sent me. I guess mine is out of warrantt now, so I'm stuck with a device that cannot transfer data to a computer, download new maps etc. Can't believe the poor quality of this device.

Contacted Garmin support, we'll see what they do. For my next GPS device I'm definitely ditching Garmin. Looks like Coros has some amazing watches out today.
