Missing Track Points from the EarthMate App

I have a Garmin InReach Explorer+.  Reciently, I completed a 25 mile weekend hike.  After a couple of hours into the hike, I checked the Inreach and tracking points were present.  I also verified that the tracking points were showing up on the EM app as well (Android).  A short time later I checked again.  The track points were still updating on the Inreach, but had quit updating on the EM app.  For the remainder of the three day hike, no more points were added to the EM app, but continued to be added to the Inreach.  The phone was on and connected via Bluetooth to the Inreach the entire time.  When I synced after returning home, all points are present on the web site.  While preparing this message, I went to the EM app and noticed that even the few track points from the weekend that had previously been present, are now missing.  Also, all previous tracking points are missing as well.  Please note that I have not deleted any previous hikes although I do reset the trip info and odometer on the Inreach before each trip.  That may explain why the some, but not all, of the older history is missing on the Inreach or why tracking points stopped recording on the EM app during the hike.  But why are all of the tracking points missing from the EM app now?  Thanks.

  • Are you referring to "sent" points (the ones transmitted in more or less real time via satellite) or to "logged" points (the ones that do not leave the device until you sync)?

  • Thanks for replying.  Only the sent points.  I have the Inreach set to send every 10 minutes.  The logged points are set to one minute intervals.  I know that I will not be able to see those until I return home and sync.

  • This sounds like a sync bug of some sort. Sync is bi-directional, but the iR device is supposed to be the "owner" of the data generated on it. So data is not supposed to disappear from the iR device unless you actually delete it from the device itself.

Did the sent points disappear only from the map or from History as well? If they disappeared from history, that would reinforce the idea that it's a sync bug.

I no longer have an active legacy device with which to experiment. Unfrotunarely, t he Earthmate app is also legacy software. I cannot remember the last time there was a new release. You can try opening a support ticket, but I wouldn't expect a lot...

  • Looking at the history on the iR. it appears that all of the tracking points are still there.  But when looking at the map, only about the last year shows up there.  I also thought it might be a sync or setting issue, however, it wouldn't explain why they stopped appearing on the EM add during the day when no changes were made to either the device or the software.  Oh well.  Thanks for taking the time to reply.  I understand the problem with support on dated equipment and software.  I was hoping that I did something stupid that had an easy fix.  Thanks again.
