66sr inreach remote does not connect to inreach device

Hello

I have a gpsmap 86i and a 66sr

on the 66sr the ie a inreach remote application in order to connect to an inreach device

I do follow the procedure to connect the 66sr to the 86i via the inreach remote on the 66sr but it never connect

the procedure is described as follow in the OM :

- start the inreach device (the 86i in my case)

- start the inreach remote application on the 66sr

then de devices are supposed to connect but it is searching for ever on the 66sr

(the first time the devices are supposed to pair but they never does)

anuy suggestions ?

Thank you

  • on the 66sr the ie a inreach remote application in order to connect to an inreach device

please read on th 66sr I start the inreach remote application in order to connect to an inreach device

  • Make sure that "sensors" are enabled. This is what turns on ANT+, which (IIRC) is the communication mechanism.

  • sensors are enabled indeed , I have used ANT+ to send and receive data (waypoint for instance) between the 2 devices both ways (send and receive)

that's how I know for sure ANT+ works on both devices ...

but the 66sr does not "see" the 86i ...

Maybe I should contact garmin support

    Thanks for helping !

  • Is inreach remote configured to search for new in settings?

  • I just find playing with the sensors settings for inreach "search for new"

in setup -> sensors -> inreach remote : on / off / search for new

I will get a try on it by tomorrow and let you know if it works

  • it finally work !!!

Here are some informations (sadly not in the documentation / OM)

when already paired to an inreach device the inreach remote can be activated as follow:

    - activate inreach remote on both devices (if de-activated but you can let it activated / on , but it might drain some power from the battery if you let it on as ANT+ surely use some power to work)

for me : on 66sr Inreach remote -> on and on 86i setup -> sensor -> inreach remote -> on

    - to pair the devices :

for me : on 66sr setup -> sensors -> inreach remote -> search for new

on 86i setup -> sensors -> inreach remote : then activate inreach remote

you can also activate the verify function to secure the connection

when the devices find each other do validate the pairing on each device

you are then ready to go , on the 66sr it now work the same as on the 86i for the inreach functions

(messages, tracking ans of course SOS) as long as both are connected to each other

the last question for me is how far the 2 devices can be from each other ?

I have to test that but if any of you did some tests I am interested to have some results

  • Likely about 30 feet or 10 meters, but test and report so we will know what you find!

  • Outside and without any obstacle I was able to keep a live connection up to 60-75 feet / 20-25 meters

it maybe a good distance for the ANT+ specifications I don't know

I was expecting 300 feet / 100 meters for my need :-) as I do not want to buy a second inreach device with a second subscription ...

I have to think again about my configuration

  • Also note that the effective distance depends on what's in between the two devices. I did some testing with an F5X+ watch and the Mini. When I carried the Mini in a fanny pack with a water bottle on each side, the devices struggled to remain connected. Without the water bottles (or if empty on the watch side), everything was fine. I know it's not your scenario or your devices. But the environment does matter.
