SOS messages to other company than GEOS

Hello,

I was wondering if it is possible that the receiver of the SOS texts can be changed to another company than GEOS?

I would like to do this, as my travel insurance has its own emergency centre and they need to organize the rescue in order to refund it.

Kind regards.

Garmin device: GPSMAP 66i

  • This is an important point since GEOS/Garmin is no longer offering medivac coverage. I am currently looking into medjet, Berkshire, and worldnomads for coverage and this is a key point I will consider.

  • This is not true. These memberships are still available. They apparently disappeared from the Garmin site for a while, but Garmin says they are back on the site, both for new iR users and for existing accounts.

Edited to add this link to the discussion: https://forums.garmin.com/outdoor-recreation/inreach/f/inreach-general/256105/geos-sar-global-medevac-insurance-discontinued

  • This is the truth-

"You are receiving this message because you purchased a MEDEVAC membership benefit through the Garmin Explore website.

We would like to inform you that existing MEDEVAC membership benefits will no longer be renewable after Dec. 31, 2021. However, if you renew your MEDEVAC membership benefit in 2021, it will still expire one year from your renewal date.

New MEDEVAC membership benefits are no longer available for purchase."

  • We sent an email to existing MEDEVAC customers explaining that MEDEVAC benefits will no longer be renewable after December 31, 2021. Existing MEDEVAC subscribers may choose to renew their membership on their renewal date, but the option to renew will be expiring at the end of the year. Existing subscribers will not be able to renew MEDEVAC services through Garmin in 2022.

For example, if your renewal date is on 12/31/21, your MEDEVAC services would expire on 12/31/22. If your renewal date is in July 2021, the subscription will expire in July 2022 and you would not be able to renew at that point.

Please note that the additional MEDEVAC services are separate from the SOS function of inReach devices; they are also separate from the additional SAR services still available for existing and new inReach users.
