Annual plan activation fee from monthly

Hello everyone, purchasing my Inreach Mini I activated the freedom subscription, paying an annual activation fee of € 29.99.

Since I will probably be using the Mini for several months during the year, I was interested in at an annual subscription.

In this case, will I have to pay the annual activation fee of € 24.99, or will the one made withe monthly subscription be valid?

I don't think it's fair to pay an annual subscription twice to go from monthly to yearly.

I confirmed with our Billing team that if you switch from a Freedom Plan to an Annual Contract Plan, you should not have to pay the Annual Contract one-time activation fee. However, if you cancel your Freedom Plan rather than simply switching, you would have to pay the Annual Contract one-time activation fee when signing up again.

Dear Andrew, thank you for the clear and detailed answer.

So can I be sure that I don't have to pay the activation fee for an annual plan again if I have already paid for the Freedom plan?

I live in Italy and I would not like this operation to be different.

Garmin support in Italy told me I should pay for it, but maybe they didn't quite understand what I meant.

if I try to change plans, this window appears:
