Saving individual track logs

A couple of related questions:
Is there a way to download individual tracks that are an hour or two apart? They appear as individual records in InReach but I have not found a way to save them as seperate files.
Is there a way to download just the track and not the associated waypoints? I see there is an option to turn a track into a route? would this work?
I have been testing out the InReach for my ecology work. I do threatened species searches and need to provide tracks to show where I went and how long I spent on each traverse. Each track is a seperate traverse.
I know it is not built for the specific purpose I am using it for but it provides safety benifits for remote work.
  • The only way to selectively export tracks is via the inreach.garmin.com web site. The export includes only the data that match the filters selected at the top of the left column. In order to get JUST one track, you will have to know the start/end dates/times for the track you want. Set the date filter to Custom Date Range and edit start/end dates/times accordingly.

I don't know about removing waypoints from the export. You can try hiding the waypoint collection (or collections, depending on how you have things organized) from the map. I don't know if this is effective on the export, however.

It's easy enough to edit the .gpx file with Notepad or something like that. You can remove the waypoints that way. But it's probably more work than it's worth if you have a lot of tracks.

It sounds to me like you need an accurate track. This means logging at a fairly high rate (depending on how fast you move). Logging at intervals of 30 seconds or less will really eat the battery on your inReach. Just a heads up.
  • Thanks twolpert
Ah, I didn't look at the custom date range which has time. Each track has start(?) time and trip length with distance and time spent so that will do it. The 'waypoints' are the individual points that go with the track when I download and open a GPX or KML file rather than logged waypoints. I get the track and a waypoint for each 2 second log. I can remove them in basecamp by saving the track alone.
I ran the device at a 2 second log interval for about 6 hours. It still showed 100% battery at the end of the day. I did a 3 week remote trip in Mongolia and it was on around 12 hours a day. Cant remember the log interval but it was the mid range plan. It would last about 4 days uploading my track log and various text message back and forth. We also used a pair of explorers to communicate between separate groups.
  • I did check. Hiding the waypoint collection(s) on the map does cause them to be omitted from the export.
