Multi Day Tracking

Had an issue on my first multi day trip with my inReach Explorer. Three day trip. At the start of each day I went to "Tracking" - "Start". End of each day "Tracking" - "Stop". Powered down a few hours later for the night. When I got back from my trip, I was expecting three individual tracks to show up on my map after I synced. What I got was track 1 showed around 23 hours and combined mileage from day 1 and 2. Track 2 showed around 23 hours as well and was combined mileage for days 2 and 3. Track 3 showed the correct time and mileage for the last day.

Anyone else experience this or have an idea what might have caused this?

Do I need to do more than start and end tracking each day?

Thanks,

John
  • No, you don't need to do anything more than start/stop tracking. When you power down, if the unit warns you that you have unsent points, you should wait for the points to send before shutting down. That's about it.

I suspect this is an attempt by the web site to connect track segments based on ending/starting location. You might try exporting from the web site as .gpx to see if you get three (or more) segments, or if you get just what the web site shows. This won't help with the web site display, but might (depending on the result) tell you if it's the unit or the web site that is connecting things that should not be connected.

FWIW, I haven't seen this issue on the Explorer itself. OTOH, it's been quite a while since I used the Explorer. Things change.
