Blocking Inreach to Inreach Messages PLEASE HELP!

Is there any way to block someone from messaging me from their inreach to my inreach? I have a friend (and God bless her) that has been sending me messages through her inreach and she's including my inreach email address in the messages she sends. (I gave her my inreach email as we were going to need to message each other out in the wilderness to meet up at a certain meeting point; any who) So I'm not only getting a text message on my phone (which is no problem because I have unlimited text messaging on my phone) but I'm getting a message on my inreach of which I only have 10 per month. Is there any way to block her?

(Disclaimer) I've tried now multiple times to ask her to remove my inreach email from her contacts but she's not putting two and two together. I don't know when we will hike again together so I'm hoping I can take care of this as soon as possible. If we do hike again believe you me I will stand there and guide her through the process and literally watch her remove inreach my email from her contact list, but until that day happens (who even knows when that will be) can I block her from sending messages to my inreach address?
  • AFAIK, there is no way to directly block an inbound message to your iR from any channel. In order to prevent spamming, there are controls over who can originate such a message through most channels. For example, you can control whether or not MapShare users can send you a message. SMS messages from phones are permitted only in response to a message you send, and then only for a limited (but unspecified) time frame. Similarly, no one can e-mail your inReach directly. Recipients of e-mail messages from your device can respond, but not by replying to the e-mail - only through an intermediary web page.

iR to iR messages are controlled only by knowledge of the inReach address. The address (ending in inreach.garmin.com) looks like an e-mail address, but is not. No one can send e-mail directly to that address. The only way it is useful is through iR to iR messaging. This channel has no protection. I assume this is because both parties in an iR to iR message are charged for the message. So spam isn't really a consideration.

I suspect that the only option you have is to change the inReach address. I don't think you can do this yourself without cancelling your plan, un-registering the device, and creating a new account with a different login e-mail address. (Your inReach address is based on your login e-mail address.) Then reactivating the device on the new account. To avoid that, you're going to have to call tech support for assistance.

Note: You can apparently change the login e-mail address from the Account tab on your existing account at inreach.garmin.com. I don't know if this would change the inReach address or not. I'm not inclined to experiment with my account. But if you have an additional e-mail address that you control, you might try that before calling tech support. Or just call them and get help.
  • I changed my e-mail address and it updated my Garmin username.
