EarthMate & Mapshare showing my private messages

I'm sure its a tick box I'm missing but I sent a message via EarthMate Android to test my Garmin Mini to a friend and my message is shown on the public view map share?

My understanding is if I email/message [email][email protected][/email] it would only be sent to him? And If I send a message to my Garmin address its shown to everyone?

Hmm if the location is ticked it will share the private message on the public site regardless? Is that right? Can I have a private message to someone and only share location for that message to them?

Seems like a bug to me. Private messages should be private even if I do share location

Including the location should have nothing to do with it. I did just check. At least some messages addressed to individuals (these were e-mail; I imagine the same applies to SMS) appear on the MapShare page. I believe this is incorrect. My understanding - which is confirmed by the terms and conditions to which you have to agree to enable MapShare - is that ONLY messages addressed to MapShare should show up there.

I'd call tech support.

If you are looking at the message list from your Garmin web account's Map tab I think you will see all messages.

However, if you look at the map as a user would - the only messages that appear are those directed to Mapshare or if you allow user messages on the map, I played with this today...

I find the Earthmate and the inReach interfaces to be user hostile.

I've leaned how to use this device through discovery as the documentation is useless.

Nothing about these interfaces is intuitive.

How did you disable showing private messages on Mapshare?

First and foremost, do NOT add MapShare as an addressee for a private message. All messages addressed to MapShare (regardless of other addresses in the list for that message) will appear on MapShare.

Secondly, be careful which collections you allow to be visible on MapShare (MapShare filter options). Messages are not included in collections, but some things, such as tracks, can expose personal data.
