Unable to sync Explorer+ due to SQL Error

Hi,

I've had an inReach Explorer+ for just over a month now and it was working fine and synced successfully around a month ago. However I've been trying to sync it via inReach Sync (on Windows 10) since Wednesday and I keep getting the error message shown in the attached photo (after it finds my Explorer+). Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this problem please?

I've already tried reverting to an older version of inReach Sync, tried a different PC (also Windows 10), tried to sync via the Earthmate app and Bluetooth on Android and iPhone, but I've not been able to sync successfully. I've also tried doing a factory rest on my Explorer+, but that's not helped either.

I'm heading off on a 2 week long walk in the next few days so could really do with solving this issue, so any ideas are appreciated.

Many thanks,

  • I've never seen that one. You've already tried the first thing I'd have suggested, which is removing and re-installing the Sync program.

The other thing to check would be whether or not you've logged in successfully with Sync. If you save credentials, try logging out and logging back in. If you don't save credentials, be sure that you are entering them correctly. Wouldn't hurt to verify that whatever you're using works to log into inreach.garmin.com. I don't have any reason to suspect that this is a login problem - just running out of things to try.

The sync program creates a log which may or may not be helpful. Not sure where it would be on Win10. On Win7, it's in c:\Program Data\Garmin\inReachSync\sync-log.txt (where c is the drive on which Windows is installed). Open it with Notepad. It's cumulative - so scroll all the way to the end, then back up to the beginning of the last session. Most if it makes little or no sense to us mere mortals, but sometimes it will suggest something.

If none of that pans out, I'd call Garmin support.
  • Really a shot in the dark: With Garmin support, you might inquire about switching your inreach.garmin.com site to another site. Hopefully, if they agree, they might do this for you, or guide you through. A new site would have to be created and then your inReach deactivated on the current and reactivated on the new. Waypoints and Routes can be exported from current site as GPX and then imported to new site.

    Just speculating......

Thanks for the suggestions. The inReach sync log file was useful as it showed that the sync was failing when it was trying to sync my contacts, although I couldn't work out what it didn't like about them.

My Explorer+ is now syncing successfully via inReach sync, which is excellent, although I've got no idea why it's suddenly started working! But not to worry, at least it is now working :-).

    Thanks,
