Openstreetmap seems out of date on inreach.garmin.com/map

I'm a bit confused as there is a road that I know is in the Openstreetmap database that doesn't show on the online map on the garmin site when you switch the map to Openstreetmap

The road is a tertiary road at 22.135399,94.118178
There are other tertiary roads around that seem to show up ok
However all of the roads that do show appear to have been added in 2014. The road that doesn't show was added in 2016
The Openstreetmap map appears to be being displayed by 'leaflet' so I would expect it to be pulling the data directly from Openstreetmap
There are no tags or anything attached to that way that would prevent it being shown that I can see. It shows on the standard openstreet map view, eg. all of the white roads to the west of the river on this map don't show on the garmin site:
https://www.openstreetmap.org/search?query=22.135399%2C94.118178#map=15/22.1641/94.1194

Does anyone have any clue why this is? Tertiary roads to the east of the river are ok and there does appear to be one tertiary road to the left but it was again added in 2014

Thanks for any wisdom that anyone has on this
  • Almost certainly not being pulled directly from Openstreetmap. The maps for the inReach are still in the old DeLorme format. In fact, the topos are the old DeLorme TopoNorthAmerica cartography. I don't know how much attention Garmin is giving to updating the maps in this format. But I would not be at all surprised to find that they are somewhat outdated.

Thanks, but I think you might be referring to the maps that download to the device itself. I was thinking about the maps you see in the browser. At the bottom left of the window you see the link to the 'leaflet' widget which is what they use to show the maps and as far as I know that pulls the info. directly from Openstreetmap. But it's a good point and when I get the device back I'll see if the roads actually show on the device itself as that might be a clue as to what is going on
  • Can't speak to the web site at all. Cartography and imagery change regularly, but sources are opaque unless the map display itself contains attribution.

There's a good chance that Garmin/Delorme is using a copy of the OSM data.(OSM doesn't want "heavy"/regular users to keep hitting their servers.)
