I did not see a generic Garmin forum or something dedicated for eTrex, but I know inReach is for outdoor use, so this should be the same audience who can help me out (i hope!)
I have a garmin eTrex30x. Got it this summer, used it on 3-4 day hiking trips and 2 overnight backpacking trips. I got the Topo bundle package which included 24k. I am assuming this is a US Only map.
I am traveling to New Zealand and have 4-5 unguided hikes lined up. I see Garmin offers a Topo light and Topo map - topo is 2x the price. I have downloaded GPX files/tracks so I can follow a pre defined path. and I want to use the GPS to also track my movements so I can use my personal GPX file in lightroom to tag my photos with GPS coordinates.
Is the Topo light sufficient? I guess I am missing terrain contours? the light product seems to have turn by turn directions on roads and trails, so that may come in handy in the rental car. the topo map (more expensive) did not list turn by turn as a feature.
Lastly, if I pick to download, should I get a new micro SD card and load it on there? remove the Micro SD card currently in my unit and place the new card in with the map?
