Organizing Waypoints

New Inreach Explorer owner here. Been using Gaia GPS on my phone and have lots of routes around Missouri mapped out. I have been successful in exporting this GPX files over to my new Garmin.

My question is around the waypoints. They all get lumped together and it is easy to get lost in them.

Anyway to organize them into some type of folder? Or perhaps link them to a route so that when you select the route you can manage the waypoints (such as turn them all on or off)?

Looking forward to getting out in the warmer weather and giving this a good test.

Thanks,

John
  • Yes, it is possible, but takes some fooling around.
1, Export gpx from Map tab on inreach.garmin.com.
    2. Make a copy and save with new name.
    3. Open with MS Wordpad.
    4. File will have some header (ca. 6) lines and footer (ca. 2) lines.
    5. Waypoints have 5 lines each <wpt lat....... to </way> with each having its name on the third line.
    6. Each track/route has 4 header lines and 2 footer lines.
    7. Track/route points also have 5 lines each <trkpt lat...... to </trkpt> with each point group of 5 having the same track name.
    8. Delete unwanted waypoints and tracks/routes.

    Good luck!
