After a day if trying to get my iPhone 4s running IOS 9.5 to link through Earthmate using bluetooth and failing I tried my partners 6S and with the Earthmate installed I was able to send a message by blue tooth via My Inreach Explorer. Although the Inreach and 4S said they were linked the Earthmate would not link. It would be good to get this issue fixed in either the InReach Firmware or Earthmate App. It only seems to be an issue with older iPhones - Dam
Can't speak to the possible hardware issues with older phones. When this kind of pairing fails, the conventional wisdom is to "forget" the other device on both the phone and the inReach. Then attempt to pair again using the functions in iOS, NOT the pairing function inside the Earthmate app. Sometimes this gives better results that the in-app pairing.
