Hi
when I send a message to Mapshare : is the message included necessary location in map? (FAQ activation example I'm stopping here)
with safety plan this message costs 0,65 (only message) or 0,65+0,12 (message+location)?
same questions with preset message :
when I send a preset message to Mapshare : is the preset message included necessary location in map?
with safety plan this message costs free (only message) or 0,12 (message+location)?

what is scale on Mapshare? should I buy map for Mapshare?
Best regards
  • A message, regular or preset, is a message. It always includes the location, which is not charged separately.

A "locate message" is a different thing, which is sent by a visitor from MapShare to "ping" your device and establish its current location. This is chargeable as two track points (at least, in the US). There is a MapShare option that allows you to disable this feature so that visitors cannot send locate requests.

As far as I know, there are no additional maps available for MapShare. You get whatever scale is available in your area. I don't have any experience with MapShare outside the US. In the US, it appears to me that the topos, at least, are no better than 1:100000. Street maps are fully detailed, as are aerial images. Your mileage may vary by location.

Tom, you write :"It always includes the location, which is not charged separately."
is this location only seen in Mapshare or also in mailbox's friends, in my inreach,..??
  • The map on your inReach can show message locations. The message coordinates are always recorded on the inReach. I believe you can see them in the history section.

Not sure what you mean by "in mailbox's friends". MapShare is a separate "recipient" for messages. If you send only to MapShare, the message appears on the MapShare map, at the proper location, and nowhere else. If you send a message to other recipients, such as cell phones via text messages or to e-mail addresses, the message normally includes the coordinates along with a link to a map. The linked map is somewhat like MapShare, but is not really your MapShare map.
