Rename the "Track Summary" to a meaningful name

Hi Experts,

Could you guys please consider adding this feature to your list?

From the picture attached, you can see I have two trips, which are all named as "Track Summary". It is meaningless, I want to have a function to rename this "Track Summary" which would make me to find out the trip quickly.

And also, I want to make the changed name to sync to my Garmin Inreach Explorer, then I can find it by name in the Histroy, not by date.

Thanks
-Johnny
  • I'm not sure you know this, so I'll mention it. If you do know it, just ignore me.

That's not really meant to be a name. Other things, such as messages, can appear in the left sidebar of the map page along with the tracks. The icon (blue dot) and the text are meant to differentiate one type of thing from another.

The inReach devices themselves have no provision for naming tracks. They only have limited ability to filter stored tracks for display on the map on the device. In particular, they have no ability to filter on a custom date/time range like the web site does. In order for naming to be useful, you'd also need to be able to determine which named track(s) should be displayed along with history as controlled by the current filters. None of that functionality is there.

Waypoints and routes can be named, but that's about it. If you plan to follow a previous track for navigation purposes, you can export the track from the map page on the web site, then re-import it as a route. You can then name the route and sync it back to the device. Be aware, though, the tracks will be "thinned" when they are imported as routes. That might cause problems with certain topologies, such as tracks which double back on themselves.

    Thank you for replying.

That would be better if InReach provide the function to name tracks I insist. And I don't think there are some techincal problems which are blocking developers from implementing this feature.

I would guess, the data under 'Users' tab in Map on web page is corresponding to the 'Histroy' on device, am I right? If so, from the Histroy(on device), I can see the track points are grouped by date. If I can rename the 'Track Summary' to 'Houhe', then sync to my device to rename the folder name to it to replace the string of date, that would be perfect.

About the routes, yes, you are correct. After import the track file as a route, some data would be lost. Cannot understand this, I think the device for nowaday has a plenty of memory which we dont need to care about the too much. Only wasting some KBs will not make GB aware.

    Thanks
