Auto Track When On

Hello,

I am using an InReach SE device on a sailing vessel of our sailing club. I bought a mount with integrated power supply which is wired to a specific switch on the electronic panel of the boat (the same switch that also poweres on the VHF radio). I configured the InReach with the "Auto Power On" and "Auto Power Off" option. Thus, the devices automatically powers on when the VHF switch on the panel is powered on (which is ususally done before leaving a harbour) and it also shuts down automatically when you switch off the VHF (which is ususally done before leaving the boat in the harbour).

I would like to automatically start tracking as soon as the device is powered on. In the release notes (https://support.garmin.com/faqSearch/en-US/faq/content/8VKhyXAh3R3VFQNYECJkS7) there is a feature mentioned called "Auto track when on" for Firmware 2.12 - Released June 2nd, 2016. This seems to be exactly the option I am looking for.

How do I enable tracking automatically when the device is powered on?

Thanks,
Philipp
  • I don't every recall seeing this feature. My SE currently has no service. I don't see any sign of it on my Explorer. It's possible that this is an enterprise-only feature. Do you have an enterprise account or a normal account?

Edited to add: If it's present, the option appears to be under tracking settings. Screen shot in this FAQ on Extended Tracking.

In fact the feature is available for enterprise customers only.

It would really be a plus if this was available for all customers.

In my case this would even reduce the number of tracking points sent and thus costs for Garmin. Instead of being activated when the other navigation devices are switchd on I have now wired the device to constant power supply and activated tracking forever. So tracking points are sent all year long - even if the boat is in harbour / not in use.

Please add the auto track when on feature to standard accounts.
