Before I buy the new inReach Explorer+ I'd like to know if you can plug it into your computer, pull up Basecamp and create an Adventure to be posted online for others to share. I do this all the time with my Garmin GPS and won't consider the new inReach if this isn't possible.
Only the inReach-specific "sync" program can communicate via a wired USB connection with the inReach devices. It provides for firmware updates and moving your contacts, waypoints, and routes to the device. It also uploads detailed tracks (assuming you recorded them) to the map page on your account at inreach.garmin.com. If you have the inReach paired with a cell phone, it's also possible to update the detailed track via the phone.
Once the detailed track is on your account, you can export it as a .gpx or .kml file. I am not familiar with Basecamp. I assume it can import a .gpx file containing a track. But I don't know how far that gets you towards what you want to accomplish.
Yes, Basecamp will import a .gpx file and then I could create an adventure for sharing but it sounds like using the Exporer+ and then the inReach online maps on my inReach account before importing into Basecamp would be a hassle.
Right now I have my Garmin GPS and a Delorme inReach SE. What I would like to do is just carry one device rather than two but it seems as if the new Garmin inReach Explorer+ just isn't a good fit for what I do and what I need.
