Altitude and Temperature not registering on Fenix 5

My Fenix 5 will calibrate using GPS however then during an activity records zero altitude change? The temperature is constantly stuck on 41c. I have rinsed the sensor, restarted the watch, returned to factory defaults even, has latest software update also. To my knowledge these two metrics has never worked but since I started doing more trails and it is a feature that is key. Anyone had similar trouble and found a fix?

  • The sensor may be broken. It is a unit that records temperature and ambient pressure, and both are stuck. You can always contact Garmin Support for advice, they may be able to help determine if it is a hardware fault or if there maybe still is a way to get the sensor working.

  • Thanks Data, but cant the altitude reading also work off the GPS? And not need the sensor?  Stange thing is, in calibration mode the altitude changes prior to it being set but then wont update from that setting during activity. Have lodged with support for their advice.

  • If altitude is based on GPS, it works as you describe: calibrate at start, and subsequent altitude changes are based on the ambient air pressure. If that pressure does not change, altutude remains the same.

I am not sure if you have a way to set altitude such that it always only uses GPS based elevation. I think it was possible on Fenix 2 or 3, not sure if Fenix 7 has that option.
