fenix 5 gps errors

I have used my Fenix-5 for several years for kitesurfing and hiking, and love to export to Google Earth.

Just recently I find that it gives many extraneous GPS points, looking like a mess of random path jumps between valid stretches of good data.

Then also on an export to GE, there are many waypoints which are not connected properly (or at all) by the path lines.

I see *many* threads here about F5 GPS problems, and don't know if there are any solutions, or if changes in Firmware have made things bad (V 25.0).

It is (of course) an expensive watch, so I hope to find a solution.

Are newer versions of Fenix better? and which would be a replacement for the F5?

I would start with removing activities from the \GARMIN\ACTIVITY folder of the watch - Removing Recorded Activities

Then do a hard reset. Hold power button down until watch is completely shut down (could take 30 seconds) then power on again. If still no joy, then do a factory reset to defaults. It's a pain to have to set everything up again, but after years of use (fenix 5 was released in 2017), this could be your answer.
