Round Trip Course option missing...

My Fenix 5 does not appear to have 'round trip course' in the Navigation menu settings.

The options I currently have are - Back to Start- Courses - Activities - Saved Locations - Sign'N Go - Coordinates. I've been though the manual online + several YouTube tutorials but still cannot find the Round Trip Course option!

Any help would be really appreciated.

Best,
Toby

  • If you do not use your watch with your smartphone and the Connect Mobile APP or with Garmin Connect web, your closest option on your watch is to use the Back to Start option when half-way in your activity and wanting to return back to where you started.

However, your experience will be better if you create your own course and sync it to your watch. Either through your Connect Mobile APP or Garmin Connect web with your watch connected to your computer.

This Support Center article will help:

Creating a Course in Garmin Connect

Sending a Saved Course from Garmin Connect to a Garmin Device

  • Hi Chris,

Thanks for your reply. Do you mean using my watch with my phone whilst out running? I always sync to my phone once I'm back. I was under the impression from a youtube video I watched was the Fenix 5 had the capability to create 3 route for you to follow from the watch itself via the 'Round Trip Course' option, is this not the case?

I wanted to watch to plan a 6 mile round run from my area.

The Support Center articles given above will help you create and load the 6 mile course you intend to plan for a run in your area. You will sync and load the course made to your watch. You will not need your smartphone while running the course since your watch is running the course for you.

You will use the Connect APP or Connect web. Your specific Fenix 5 model cannot create the course since you have no map loaded nor can a map be loaded. (It's the Fenix 5X model that was our first Fenix to have a map image loaded which then changed things but most everyone still uses Connect or other 3rd party APPS like Strava to create a course and sync it to the watch.)
