Fenix 5 Wrist HR monitor not working for pool swim

Wrist HR monitor worked fine. Then I paired with H10 external HR monitor. For running, if I ware the external HR monitor, Fenix will use it, otherwise it will use the built-in wrist HR monitor. This is great. However, for swimming, I can't wear H10 (not water proof), but Fenix won't automatically use its built-in wrist HR monitor. I tried everything in Settings, but can't figure out how to make the Fenix 5 to use its own wrist HR monitor when the external is not connected. Please help. Thanks!

I use HR pro in Sea and works fine. You can use also in pool. If You want to have hr on wrist You have to change Watch with newer One. I use 255 before I used 935 which don't work in water....

I already have H10, so don't plan to invest in another HR monitor. The built-in wrist HR monitor works for run and other activity types, I wonder why it doesn't work for swimming. Is it by design that Fenix 5 doesn't support built-in wrist HR monitor for swimming?

I'm guessing the same also applies to the Fenix 3HR. HR working fine while inside the gym (indoor rowing) but as soon as I get in the water, HR stops and field just stays blank for the rest of the swim. No real issue there as long it's detecting my pool lengths accurately which it does.

Hi,

Polar H10 sensor is suitable for swimming. It's waterproof until 30m.

I bumped into this posted because I wanted to know if you could see HR while recording your swim activity on fenix 5s, but that's impossible because of data transfer protocol differences between garmin and polar.

But the workaround is to record you HR on your Polar H10 while swimming, and then export the .fit file from Polar Flow/Polar Beat and merge it with the swimming activity .fit file from Garmin Connect.
