Can hrm lens be repaired? Skin irritation/tracking inaccuracy

Gang Gang,

I've had this wonderful watch for about 5 years and it's worked like a tank. A couple days ago, for the very first time, I developed the 'burn' or 'rash' that some people have talked about. I regularly take breaks from the watch, loosen it when not training, and have always kept it relatively clean. I believe part of the reason I got my rash was because the lens or lens coating that covers the hrm/leds has cracked and become noticeably rougher to the touch, like maybe a 200 grit sandpaper. I also think this has caused the tracking data to become less accurate and read lower heart rates during workouts. Yes, we all know the limitations of wrist trackers, but as you'll see my lens there is crackled. Unless I'm wrong and this wouldn't affect my heart rate readings? This is obviously a huge bummer because I love the watch and would like to ride it out as long as possible.

What are my options? Will Garmin repair it?

  • *update* after chatting online with Garmin, they offered to replace it with a refurbished Fenix 5 for $170. Don't know yet if I want to do that or not, just wanted to give everyone the info about the option. They do not offer a repair and return option, which would be preferable.

  • We are sorry to hear about the issue you are reporting. The skin irritation may be a result of build-up on the watch band and/or casing. You should discontinue wearing your watch until your skin has healed.
