Downgrade firmware

After updating my Fenix 5 I an experiencing very fast battery drain. I have restarted the watch more than once.

Before upgrade I could usually charge the watch every 8-9 days but after the upgrade I have to do so every 3-4 days.

I am only seeing "ghost shadow" when ever I start an activity or connect the charger.

V. 25 made my watch more or less useless.

How do I downgrade to the previous version?

Regards,

  • Batteries start to degrade in phones after two years and it's usually fairly noticeable after three years. I bought my Fenix 5+ in 2018 and battery life had degraded in 2021. I contacted Garmin with another problem and they exchanged my 5+ for a new one and I'm fine with it but I would be okay with replacing the battery every three years. They actually don't replace the battery; they replace the watch but I can live with that.

  • If you read what the OP said you would see that has very little to do with age.. His issues started after updating the firmware.....

To the OP  gp here New Items on Joe and Jack's GPS Information Website  you will find links to earlier firmwares just follow the instructions(eg put the firmware file in the garmin folder of the watch)  and yu should be good to go... Also if you have not done so already try hard/factory resetting the watch to see if that resolves the issue.. Many have had a simiar issue and a reset has fixed it( even I have had the issue)

  • Due to a disagreement with GoDaddy about whether the Joe & Jack webpage is a hobby or commercial enterprise the software archive is no longer online. It does still reside on my hard drive, however. If you'll send me a message with your needs I can probably send you a link to retrieve it from my Dropbox directory.

  • Not me who needs it but am sure the OP will be happy to read you are here andmay be able to help..... As to go daddy lol they are a law unto themselves.. I know of several friends who have had the very same issues with GoDaddy and never seemed to get t resolved so moved to other host sites instead....

  • Hello Allory, Im having a battery drain issue after updating my Fenix 5 to V25.0. I would like to see if downgrading will fix the issue. Can you please share the dropbox link for Fenix 5.

  • I tried downgrading to V22, but I don't see any noticible change in batery drain. I have decided to upgrade the watch to a Fenix 7, and I will start testing my Fenix 5 with different firmwares to see which one has the least batterydraw.

  • I had the issue and a ful reset and solved it others have reported that turning it on  and letting it reboot  a few tmes fixes it for them... SO may be try those optiions first.

  • For me they have all been the same (once you do a full reset if theres a drain) I am on 25.00 and mine last easily 10-12 days of general use (some times a little longer)  and even managed  around 23 hours in GPS mode, and nearly 40 hours in UltraTrac..  I just got in to the habit after every update of resetting the watch and letting Connect do its thing followed by an hour of installing and setting apps etc up... Always been worth it in the end..

  • How did you downgrade the FW. I added the gupdate.gcd file in Garmin folder and disconnected my watch from PC. I didnt get any prompt. When i connected the watch again, I wasnt able to find the file in Garmin folder.
