Fenix 5X won’t turn on after battery charge drained

Watch turned off after battery discharged. I plugged it in to charge but it won’t turn back on. What should I do? I have tried holding the light button for at leas 30 second and nothing.

  • Even though you have already tried the 30-second hold, please try these steps again below. I have seen a lot of success with these steps when used with all Fenix series watches if not powering on or charging. Also, double check all 4 pins on your charging/data cable are nice and straight and clean the rear connection point of your watch.

If no luck, please reach out to Outdoor Product Support in your region. We still have inventory of recertified Fenix 5X watches available in your region.

    Please try the following:

    - With your watch unplugged, hold down the top left power button for 1 minute.

If your watch did not turn on, plug your watch in to charge. Give it 15-20 seconds to see if it responds.

    - With your watch plugged into the charge, hold down the top left button again for 1 minute.

If the first 2 steps tried did not result in your watch working correctly again, here are additional specific steps to also try:

    1. Plug the watch into a power source
    2. Allow charging for 2 hours
    3. Remove from the power source for 5-10 minutes
    4. Plug the watch back into the power source
    5. Allow charging for another 2 hours
    6. Hold the Power button for 30 seconds or until the watch powers on, whichever occurs first
  • Along with cleaning the connectors, try this.

With the watch not connected, hold three buttons down (light, down and start buttons) for 15-20 seconds and try charging again.

  • Awesome, did the 1 min hold on top left button on the 5X, then plugged it back into the charging cable with power and wallah, it worked! Super stoked after trying for the last day different techniques. I love Garmin products and used them while in the military and now as a civilian contractor overseas, but a problem like this should never occur, I hope Garmin fixes this problem on all current and future products. I did 25 years in Special Operations, and currently continue work in high risk situations and adverse conditions, I rely on all my Garmin equipment heavily, redundancy and contingency planning is everything. Great products 99% of the time, thank you Garmin!

  • Holding the top button down for 2 minutes (just in case), then plugging in, worked for me.

  • Woke up this morning to find mine not turning on too…So I came on here, held down top left button, as you guys are saying, for a minute then plugged in and hey presto. Absolutely buzzing my watch hasn’t died. This watch has been awesome from day one (had it about 3 years).

Thanks Garmin. Great company and products
