Fenix 5 does not sync anymore after Garmin connect update I believe

Hello,

I use an iphone 11 pro - latest iOS 15.5 and the latest Garmin Connect app 4.55.24

Unfortunately my Fenix 5 does not sync anymore after the latest Garmin connect update I believe. The sync starts but after a while it stops and nothing got synced.

The only way to sync the tracked activities is to delete the Garmin connect app and set it up again, which is not a very comfortable way. But at least it works.

Any idea to solve this problem?

Many thanks

Leo

  • I started having the same issue a couple weeks back. It used to sync and show my activity right away, now it tries to sync, looks like it does, but doesn't. I usually have to wait until I am back on wifi and it will update them, but not via bluetooth like it used to.

  • I'm completely lost on how syncing even works with Garmin anymore.  If I update a custom workout I've built in PC Connect it WILL NOT sync to my watch no matter what method I use.  It will immediately synch to mobile Connect but it will not make it to my watch until about 24 hours after I change it.  I've tried all of the following force syncs to no avail:

    • Send to Device command in Connect after building and saving the workout.
    • Hitting the sync button in mobile Connect.
    • Connecting and "Transferring Data" through WifI on my watch.
    • Connecting my watch directly to PC and syncing through Garmin Express.

No idea what it's doing or how it is supposed to work but I can't use any of my workouts I build until a day or so after I build them.  It's maddening.

  • I had a syncing problem with mine, it wasn’t syncing to my phone.  The dot against my watch In the app would go green, the arrows would spin, the circle around the dot wouldn’t progress and it would all go green and nothing had happened.

I connected my watch with a cable to my MacBook and it started to sync and complained about an activity that was corrupted it said.  I navigated to my watch, looked at the file (it error told me the date and time of the file) and the file was zero bytes so I deleted it…

Bingo, my watched then synced successfully with my phone and continues to do…

    hope this helps?

  • Never seen an error like that.  Further testing has produced the following procedure to partially get this to work.  Maybe this is how you are supposed to do it anyway and I've lost sight of that?

    1.  Create/update workout in online Connect.

    2.  Save it and Send to Device.

    3.  Go to mobile Connect on phone.

    4.  Pull up workout on mobile Connect.

Bug:  at this point I get a bug that blanks out my Warm Up set for any workout I update and have to add it back in on the mobile Connect workout and resave it.

    5. Send to Device again using that icon on mobile Connect.

    6.  At this point, the updated workout will partially make it over to my watch, finally.  However, not every change will.  One of the changes I made was to swap out an exercise for a different one.  That change did not make it over until today....a little less than 24 hours later.

Have tested this multiple times and this seems to be the only way it will sync to my watch minus the change in that one exercise which lags 1 day.  Dumb process.

  • I also experience this problem the last weeks, I use Garmin connect on Android  and is on version 4.57.1.
My phone is a Google Pixel 6 with the latest firmware.

Synchronising with Garmin Express is working, but I it's just a work around.

  • I got an firmware of my phone and it seems that the synchronization problem is gone.
In my case it's an Google Pixel 6 updated to android 13, Google reworked a lot of the Bluetooth stack.
