elevation showing small spikes in the second half of my run

Hi,

For the last few weeks, my garmin fenix 5 is showing tiny spikes in my elevation in the second half of my run. It will be ok and then about half way, it starts to show tiny spikes that over inflate the elevation. I've attached an image showing it.

I believe my software is 25.00 and this was synced on garmin express before these runs.

Any ideas?

I've just tried cleaning the altimeter port so will see how that goes on my next run on Saturday, fingers crossed

Probably sweat getting into the altimeter port, and then even a gentle push on the port with your wrist, with a sleeve, or even due to a wind gust, may sharply influence the pressure reading. Keep it dry during runs (I use to remove the excess sweat around the watch with my thsirt, or just with the other hand).

Ok I cleaned the port and it's still happening. Always only in the 2nd half of my run.

I have cleaned it again (some more stuff came out) and will try again tomorrow. Any other ideas welcome though.

As I wrote in my previous post. Cleaning before the activity will not help much with the sweat. You have to prevent its cumulation around the port, removing / drying it regularly during the activity.

What kind of design is that that you need to stop your run to clean the port! And for that matter, why is it only happening now when I've had the watch for 3.5 years?

You do not need to stop. Just swipe away the sweat around the port with a finger of the other hand, or with the t-shirt. Easily done while you run or bike.

Hard to tell. Maybe you run harder, sweat more, or it is warmer weather, perhaps the dirt accumulated in the port during the years contributes to the problem, or perhaps there is there is a completely different reason for it.
