Quite a simple question really.... Can we use an SPO2 monitor with the Fenix 5 range? If so which ones are compatible? And which apps and widgets are people using??
This is more of a curiosity question than anything..

Just wondering, why would you want spo2?
Are you a professional athlete for whom every second counts?
For normal people sp02 is always 90% or higher. No need to measure that.
Garmin advertises it is useful for hight and temperature acclimatisation. Normal people just take is easy a couple of days when it suddenly becmoes hot or when they go to the maintains and then train or compete and see how it feels.
What's your need to improve that beyond already good enough?
Just being curious myself. For me, it sounds like spending money just to collect an other metric, without doing something with it.
In answer to your questions...
I am a professional mountaineer and outdoor activities instructor as well as a SAR team leader so and SPO2 has value for both acclimatisation and monitoring patient health( I already used and HRM strap for this on some rescue ops) which allows me to monitor them whilst recovering them from their situation without the large monitors and the wires etc being and issue.. And like I said also for acclimatisation when working in areas such as the Himalayas, High regions of Canada...
So as you can see it would have value and I did say it was more curiosity than a need too...
fair enough. I didn't want to question your question.
I'm just a amateur athlete who lives in the Netherlands, which is really flat and at sealevel and not very hot either. So when I go to the hills on holiday I just go for a run in the hills and when it's tough I just run a bit slower. I go for a run anyway (but I know my body and abilities, so I do take care to not becoming one of your patients)
In my case I don't see the need, but maybe I missed something. I see the usecase for your situation, I think.
No need to apologies at all... The reason I asked the question was out of curiosity more than anything. As it "COULD" be of use in certain situations like I have stated.... I would only personally use it to help when at High altitude but even then it would be if I felt unwell all of a sudden so I would probably rarely use one. Like you I know what my body is capable and how much to push it.....
The only model in the F5 series that features an spo2 sensor is the F5X+.
This is why we are talking about EXTERNAL SPO2..................................
Ah, ok. Well, then you'd need to find an external sensor with BLE connectivity, and then make an IQ app that would talk to that sensor. Not sure if the latter thing is even possible on the F5.
I know there is a specic monitor that can be used on my f5x as it has the connection setup in the sensors settings(muscle o2)... And there are a few widgets and apps that would work. But the sensor in question is quite bulky as it is more of a pad type.... So the potential is certainly there it is finding a suitable one..
