Burnt charging contact points. Anyway to clean up the mess?

This is actually a Fenix 3 but I could not find a forum for it. I took the watch for a few meters down underwater (less than 5), and then found it unworkable when i surfaced. It still had some display on but eventually turned off.

At home, I tried to charge it but it got hot very fast so I turned it off.

Curious, I opened it and found the charging contact points burnt. Could be due to a short because of seeping water.

Any idea if I can salvage this? Does anyone know how to clean this up and make it work again?

  • To me, it doesn't look like it's fixable. You shouldn't have charged the watch after the water damage. Then it certainly wouldn't have been so bad. Still, you was damn lucky that the watch didn't explode when you tried to charge it. I hope you disposed of the Li battery immediately. You should be extremely careful with these batteries. A lithium fire is extremely hot and cannot be extinguished with water.

  • Battery is physically separated from the entire system now. Lithium is notorious for catching fire, and more and more people are owning more lithium in their homes. I reckon this is not salvageable anymore for reasons of safety.
