For a run my Fenix 5 Plus appears to miss certain sections of my track and duplicate other sections when displayed in Garmin Connect

For a run my Fenix 5 Plus appears to miss certain sections of my track and duplicate other sections when uploaded and displayed in Garmin Connect. The GPS points are all correct, it is just the sequence as I advance down the recorded track is not feasible. Happens frequently. Almost as if on upload the data blocks were chained incorrectly. Any suggestions?

    Yes, I have deleted the Activity folder, to no avail. After reset I had an empty Activity folder

    Subsequent browsing files in the GARMIN/EVNTLOGS folder shows that CHKDSK was run (internally by the device) multiple times, including yesterday. It doesn't look like it failed, but I have no documentation to interpret the command output. In the GARMIN folder I also have .chk files, indicating at some times in the past 2 years CHKDSK has recovered orphaned sectors. The way I am currently interpreting this is that the device would "automatically" recover from file system inconsistency if it were possible (many years of Windows experience indicates file system recovery is not always possible)
     
    So I am currently pinning my hopes on the local Garmin support office
