Fenix5 does not charge. Charging pins damaged

The watch golden pins seem to be broken from corrosion, according to what I read in the forum.

I bought phone in July 2019 and the left pin already looked damaged after 3-4 months. It sometimes didn't charge at the first try but eventually it did, so I did not contact the Customer Service. After I discovered it in the forum, I have periodically cleaned the pins with isopropanol.

Now all pins seem to be damaged and the watch doesn't charge anymore since a week ago. I have cleaned it with isopropanol and with ethanol. I have pressed the ON button for more than one minute. I have connected it via USB to the PC. Nothing worked so far.

Since I bought it more than 2 years ago, I guess the warranty is finished and Garmin will not replace the watch. According to the Garmin service website, the repair fee is about 500$, which is as much as buying a new watch (if not even more expensive).

Any tips/solutions/suggestions?

Thank you so much guys.

  • Please reach out to your region's Outdoor Product Support. $500 sounds abnormally high given the age of your watch series. We will be happy to over options.

  • I had the same issue with my Fenix 5 not charging, and after cleaning the connection points realised I still had the same issue. Then I checked the cable, the four male pins are spring loaded and I saw that one of the pins on the cable had not sprung back. So sprayed it with alcohol and pushed it a few times with a pin and it has popped back out. Charging nicely now. Good luck

  • Charging seems to be a Major bugbear with the 5 series - I occasionally have to reset to get it to charge - sometimes cleaning the contacts with Isopropyl alcohol works but often I just lick my finger and wipe it across the contacts then plug the charger in again and hey presto! it seems to work
