Fenix 5 is unusable after update to 22.20/30/40

Dear friends,

I would appreciate if someone can post here or send a private message with the firmware version earlier than 22.20.

I was not smart enough to turn off the auto update and now I have a watch with elevation which stucks at one point, gps which is way off and battery which is more than 20% per day without any activity.

Considering that three versions of firmware rollout since initial one (22.20) where these issues were firstly reported by Fenix 5 users, I don't believe that Garmin team knows/wants to fix it anymore.

My watch is the regular Fenix 5. No X, S, Plus...

Thanks in advance

  • @outlaw24, thank you for your tip.I was inaccurate, I meant the wireless Tri sensor.
Update: I changed the battery again, now it is connecting

  • FileTransferError timeout.

I was getting a similar file transfer error error as well. It was refusing to update the Records file, it seemed. When I checked, I realized that my 5K record had reverted to an earlier effort. Even when I tried to make the record run the PR by setting the PR, both events showed the PR trophy icon. Yesterday, after doing a factory reset, I was able to set the new PR but I am not sure that my reset was the reason for the fix. The sense that I had was that Garmin may have restored some data set with an older dataset. That might be as stretch but....

Garmin Connect mobile had a different record from the watch. My suspicion, that I have not been able to confirm or even fully check is that Garmin was changing something on the backend. Garmin's PR was set using the time for the run and not the time of the record for the distance. If for example you ran a 5.5 kilometers but in that run you set a 5K PR. The record time as I recall would reflect, not the time of the 5K record split within the 5.5K run, but the time of the 5.5K. My wild suspicion is that they may have been trying to fix this.

  • I was yesterday using Garmin Express at my laptop and try syncing also Fenix5. Ends to error.

I found corrupted file in my Fenix5, deleted that and now syncing is working.
