Fenix 5x distance (but not time) frozen at 4999m during open water swim. Help please!

Hi. I've been using the fenix 5x without complaint for 2 years. Today for the first time it froze at a distance (4999m) during an open water swim, but the timer kept ticking. My average pace therefore decreased until I ended my swim and stopped the watch. Both Garmin Connect and Strava had the 4999m mark as the end of my swim. I'm only 6 weeks out from a long distance swim FKT attempt, and this is obviously very concerning as I need the watch for training and to verify the attempt. Any advice very gratefully received. Thank you :)

I am sorry your are having an odd issue with your Fenix 5X open swim APP. Your best bet will be to reset your watch and then go one step further, delete the prior activities you already synced to Garmin…

Your best bet will be to reset your watch and then go one step further, delete the prior activities you already synced to Garmin Connect. With your watch plugged into your computer, empty your Garmin > Activity folder. If using a Mac, be sure to empty your trash too before you eject your watch. I hope your watch is working properly again.

Hi Chris, thanks for your reply. I spoke with a few of your colleagues on the online chat, who recommended I download Garmin Express. It turned out there were 26 updates pending! I've now updated the watch, but while pool swimming yesterday (on pool swim mode) the watch added 500m to a 4000m swim. Bizarre. Given that this happened after I installed the updates, would you recommend that I go ahead with the reset and deletion that you suggested in your reply? Thanks

The most you can do at this point is to reset it to see if you can get normal behavior to return. I hope your watch is back to working properly again.
