fenix 5X cannot be detected by Garmin Express and Windows

Tried 3 different cables on 2 windows 10 computers and 1 macbook pro.

my fenix 5X could be charged when plugged into usb port, but Garmin Express couldn't detect it, and windows device manager also didn't find any new devices when fenix 5X was plugged in.

I have tried to switch USB mode from Garmin to Mass storage; no lucky;

tried to reset the watch, no lucky.

And every time when watch boots up, it always warns that the map is unauthorized.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

That's "normal". You can buy a refurbished one from Garmin for reduced price. Mine stopped working one year ago...

I don't know if it's possible to manage/delete maps from the watch. you might try a factory reset but you'll lose all your settings. hopefully, it won't damage the watch more. my guess is that the storage filesystem has some error. what kind of reset did you perform ?

it happened to me too.

if the device is not defective the following tricks will solve the issue (I had my 1st Fenix 5x replaced just after 10 months, the replacement unit is working great since more than 2 years)

1st clean the pins on the watch with a rubber (those for deleting pencil marks)

if 1st does not solve try 2nd

2nd try a different cable (good quality ones, the thin chinese ones are only good for recharging)

if none works then you need to send it to support

I have had this problem with my Fenix 5 Plus since I bought it in 2018, I have recently discovered that how I plug it in matters. If I can't get a connection, it sometimes works better if I flip the plug around.
