Fenix 5x Issues with WIFI

I have been having some issues with WIFI for some months now:

1. When i add a new network through Garmin Express, the network is added but the add says "connection refused" or "No Internet Connection" when i test it through my hotkey (back button setup as wifi)

2. When i add the network through my watch and i test it, i get "connection refused" the watch freezes, the light is the only thing that works, i have to hard reset

3. When i add the wifi though Garmin Connect on Android, i get a "connection refused" and then "reconnecting to Phone". The watch freezes, i can only turn on the light, i have to hard reset the watch.

Can someone help?

I have to add that i reset everything in the watch, even the data, reconfigured from scratch. Tried all i could think of, even moving to a guest network on my WPA?WPA2 (WEP is no longer available - i understand that NOPASSWORD is not an option).

And the internet works, tested with at least 10 devices connected.

Thanks

  • I had this issue with a fenix 3, an FR620 and a Fenix 5s sapphire. It turns out it was an issue with the wifi 2.4ghz channel. Some channels cause issues to some devices, I have seen this on an iPhone in the past. Disable automatic channel if it is the case and try to set to another channel even if it is not the ideal/least overlapping one.

  • OK, found the channel mode, added manual channel, below 10, tried several of them, does not work.

Bu it appears it works with my phone's hotspot.... So it's a router problem and not a watch problem.

  • I was about to suggest you try with your phone hotspot as it is actually how I figured out that the watch's wifi was working as intended. that's one step. at least, it is not your watch. maybe check if mac address filtering is not enabled on the router/access point. if you have many devices, maybe check taht the dhcp range is large enough to give an ip to the watch. also, i noticed i had to be rather close to the router with my 5s, while my Fenix 3 would sync at a larger distance (in my office room). finally, i keep the mobile hotspot on the watch, for syncs on-demand.

  • DHCP not an issue and the wifi router is right my feet :) Can't be any closer than that.

My home setup is like this: ISP provider Huawey turned into bridge, upstairs router from provider TP Link AX 1500 does the PPPOE connection, i have  RE45 TP Link extended 2 meters away to extend the range through the steel walls inside the house, i have another TP LInk AX 1800 close to the Huawei, downstairs connected to the AX 1500 that serves the network to my devices downstairs. As you can see power of WIFI is not an issue. It's the damn routers, they are too new for this watch. :))) Stupid..

Thanks for giving me the idea of the channel, that pointed me to the phone actually (the WPA/WPA2 settings, channel, alternate network).
