My running buddy uses Fenix 5 and I use Marq. In the last months we are seeing more and more often a delta even if we run side by side, mostly doing track work. Here are the Garmin Connect Screens of interval work from this morning. We did the first 3 together (please ignore 4th one as we didn't do that one together). These are 10 minute intervals with a goal of 6:20 pace. My Garmin Marq shows 6:09, 6:05, 6:23, his Garmin Fenix shows exactly the same three as: 6:22, 6:19, 6:31. So this is a difference of 11, 14, and 8 seconds over each 10 minute hit. We ran these side by side. To minimize difference of distance run, we switch sides from track 1 to track 2, so the length difference of distance run between both of us can't be significant since it would cancel each other out. Furthermore, the Marq always shows us faster than Fenix 5.
We would like to know, which data is more accurate as it impacts our training significantly. 10 seconds difference in pace is very material.
Does this have to do with GPS chips of older garmin units vs. the new Sony chip (found in Marq)? How can this be fixed? Is there a calibration option? Which unit is closer to the reality?
