Energy safe mode during running a set gpx course

Hello All,

I REALLY hope someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong or how I can prevent this from happening.

So I like to run routes that were uploaded as a gpx file by others. I use Wikiloc a lot and I can send the gpx file straight to my watch.

But when i run a gpx course, i start it by going to run/trailrun, select courses, select the course i want to run that day and press start.

So far, so good. But after half an hour the watch says: switching to energy mode (or something like that) in 30 seconds. If I press a button within

that timeframe, it's ok and the map shows again.

So my question is twofold:

1. can i turn off the energy saving mode during a course?

2. if not and I miss the 30 second warning, it goes back to the watch face and I have NO idea how to get back to the original map.

As for the second question: when i go back to trailrun i see on the top part of my screen that I'm still on route, so the course is still active. I just don't know how to get back to the map.

If i press trailrun, all i get is quit activity or if i go on to course i can start that same course again but then i lost all progress up till that point.

I have googles my ass off, and it's probably me, but I just can't seem to find the answer to this problem. I really hope someone can help me (and my mate, because he's experiencing the same issue).

regards, and thnx in advance.

  • On the first question: Maybe it is the standby modus? I switched that of.

  • (...) Or maybe you have to disable the energy saving mode manually

  • Have you _Started_  an activity before doing Do Course? This is kind of a tricky non-obvious. Go into activity such as Hike, Run, or Trailrun. Start the activity. Hold the menu button (the middle one on the left side). Scroll down to Navigate, then Courses, select the course, then Do Course. Now as you scroll through watchfaces it should show the map screen and your chosen datafield screens.

  • Hello Robin, thanks for your replies. As for the first:  i don't think so but how do I switch it of? and to respond to your second reply: i wish i knew how :)

  • Hello Carleson,

    Thank you for your reply.

i start it differently but will try this next time. Not sure if that's the answer to be honest. But your last sentence gives me hope it is an answer to my second question. If i read it correctly :)

  • Ok hope so, I follow courses during activities for hours like this and haven't had it shut off. You could test it now inside and discard the activity, that way you could be confident it was working or now if we have to keep looking.

  • I partially lied, my appoligies: I ment the time out and not the stand by. You can find the energy mode in the time-out settings. You can find it in: menu, settings, activity, (navigate or running for example), settings, time out settings. Ergo: ignore the stand-by remark.

  • I'm kinda repeating what has been stated but maybe more a summary to help out.  The time-out mode  shows up when you have selected, an activity so GPS, sensors etc are active, but not started the activity.  Th intent is to avoid situations where the GPS is active for long periods, draining the battery, but you did  not actually start to run/walk/whatever. The extended setting allows for a situation like a large mass start race where you might be crowded in a corral for an long time before the start.  Here you can set up the activity, get a GPS lock and be ready once the start gun goes.  It also avoids accidental selection of activities which you don't notice.  I'm specifically using the terms Select and Start to indicate the two actions.  So what is happening is you are setting everything up for your run (selecting Run, selecting the course) but not actually hitting the Start button (Top Right), So everything is ready to go but the watch is not recording the time/distance.  Carleson's description of the steps is accurate but for the clarification that you do not need to Start the activity before selecting the navigation, just Select it so the watch is now searching for GPS (which may be what he meant anyway).  Then do the steps he covered to select the course.  When ready hit the Start button to actually start the activity.

  • Exactly... When I read it I thought it was the problem, but didn't had time to write what you so nicely explained.

  • Hello Robin,

Thank you for your answer. I did find the time out settings and was able to set it to extended. Couldn't turn it off though but together with the answer from @razmichael i was able to finally get what i was doing wrong.

    Thnx again!
