Corrosion on charging portal

I bought a Fenix 5s plus Dec 2019. I kept having trouble charging it and had to keep buying new charge cables. As they only seemed to last about 3 - 4 months at a time. After the last one I bought didn't charge the phone any more I can now see there is rust around the pins charging. I bought it from John Lewis but they won't do anything about it. They just kept telling me to buy a new cable and they reimbursed me. Clearly there is a fault with the watch. It shouldn't corrode like that. Any advice please.

  • There is plenty of threads about corrosion in this forum, but there is no ultimate solution. Some people have this issue,  some don't.  Few things you can do:

    - after each activity wash your watch in lukewarm water (this probably doesn't help you anymore, as your watch is already corroded)

    - new cable helps for some time (this you know)

    - if cable does not help anymore,  you have to contact Garmin support and agree exchange for refurbished unit (it may come also a new one)

    - if exchange is done during warranty,  it is free of charge

    - out of warranty you have to pay, Garmin offers you deal, usually it is around 200e

It is up to you to accept ot not.

    Thank you.

  • my advice is not to use those little plastic covers that are sold aftermarket to cover the charging portal. They seem to abet the corrosion process. I kept having to clean the pins (with a pen eraser) after using them. Ditched them now both in activity and during watch cleaning, and charging has become flawless again.
