21.71 Change Log Notes:

  • Fixed an issue where Tee names with special characters were not being displayed properly for certain golf courses.
  • Improved the accuracy and reliability of altitude data.

Please send all bug reports to [email protected], and indicate which model of the fenix 5 series you have in the subject line.

Please note, the beta updates released on these forums are not suitable for APAC region devices.

  • Anyone test it? I'm worried as version 21 made me disappointed on battery drain and I had to revert to stable 20.

I did install on the first day and have been therefore been using since the afternoon of December 30th. Please note that they have not claimed battery improvement. Having said that, I have been tracking battery life as well and I can say that it is marginally better for me than 21.0 in that short  period but still not 7% per day or 2 weeks. I would say that the average for non GPS days would have moved from 16% per day to 13% per day (very rough calculations).

I don't play golf and I can't say that I have seen any improvements in altitude data but I can't say that I had discerned a problem in altitude data either.

  • Been running it for a couple of days now.
Battery behaviour just normal as before.

No problems for me, but then again I've never been experiencing these battery drains that others have reported.

My normal use is a couple of hours GPS+Gallileo+ANT HR every day.
Hiking or Kayaking outdoors or indoor cycling (no GPS then).

This is an update on my own experience over the past day. I have seen a 7% daily average for the first time in a very long time. I am not sure if it will be sustained but it has been noteworthy.

  • very excited to see how good the altitude fix might be

it's a barometer fix? or gps?

  • I need a few more days of testing to be sure but initially it looks like the altitude fixes might be working well.

I run the same route a few time a week and it always bothers me that even though I return the exact same point the elevation up vs down never balances out, which of course is impossible.

Today with 21.71 for the first time the elevation went to zero.

"summary" is from the watch (session 18 in the FIT) "laps" is all the lap data added together and "complete" is my own calculation from all the records per second in the FIT file. This is converted to feet and 7 feet difference is the closest I think it's ever been. (the up/down difference between summary and complete is because of the "coastline paradox" when there is a high sampling rate )

    Course elevation up down
    summary 0.00 65.62 65.62
    laps (31) -3.28 59.06 62.34
    complete -7.20 231.00 238.20
  • That is just freaky, how did they fix it that well? I wouldn't believe this except it was a few feet different yesterday and if I look at sub-distances inbetween there is a variance, so it's not faking it.

Only catch is this is the same course as the one above, so it's 30 feet off either direction, which is implausible as I didn't do an extra hill but maybe slightly off the same path.

    Course elevation up down
    summary 0.00 32.81 32.81
    laps (31) 0.00 29.53 29.53
    complete 5.20 225.70 220.50

  • Hello, mij name is Robin Verstraete and I'm from the Netherlands. I own a fenix 5 for 2 years now. Due to massive batterydrainage (40% per day) I'm currently running on the 21.71 software version. This version is running okay but the batterydrainage problem is still there. I want to try to install softwareversion 20 in order to solve the drainageproblem. But I can't find it here on the Garmin Forum or anywhere else on the Internet. Maybe anyone of you have the sotwareversion 20? And maybe are you're willing to e-mail it to me?

What else did I do tot solve the drainageproblem?

    -removed all the apps/widget/facewaches;

    -tried all the known buttoncombinations

-drain the battery untill its flat

-via the computer formated (!) the watch

-via the computer deleted randomly files to urge the watch tot re-install itself

    -hard reset-sofreset via de watch.

  • Hi

You can find all of the different firmware versions available at the following link. You will have to narrow it down by month and year. Good luck.
