CT10 not pairing with Fenix Chronos

HI

I love the Chronos but cannot connect the CT10 sensors.  They do not appear in the sensor list.  Is there a software upgrade available to address this?

  • I am sorry but the Fenix Chronos is not compatible with the Approach CT10 sensors. The platform of the Chronos is the Fenix 3 series platform going back 5+ years. The earlier platform itself prevents the compatibility. Otherwise, it would be an easy to add sensor ability to the Fenix 3, Fenix 3 HR, and the Fenix Chronos watches.

For our outdoor watches, the Approach CT10 sensors are compatible with all newer generations that came out after the Fenix 3 series and Fenix Chronos. IE: the Fenix 5 series, Fenix 5 Plus series, Fenix 6 series, and the successors to your Chronos high-end watch, the MARQ series.

Here is the full list of compatible watches for the Approach CT10 sensors: Approach CT10 Sensors Compatible Watches.

While the explanation seems logical it does not help me much as a recent purchaser of both the Chronos and the CT11.  The CT 10 is less useful and necessary so I will get rid of that.  If I am switching to another device I may as well switch to another brand, rather than another Garmin only for golf.  Why not make the CT 10 connect to the golf app on a smartphone if the remix 3 platform is not useful

Maybe the Fenix Chronos should have been called the fenix 3 Chronos to not disguise that it is developed on the 3 platform rather than pretending it is is a fenix five as all the marketing of the fenix Chronos is in the fenix 5 range.

Still think it is a software issue.  If the Chronos can recognise a heart rate monitor why not the CT10.  SURELY THIS CAN BE FIXED WITH A SOFTWARE UPDATE.  EVEN BETTER.  LET THE CUSTOMER DECIDE WHICH SENSORS THE CUSTOMER WANTS TO CONNECT.

  • Hi John, definitely frustrating. And you are right, I also thought by now chronos is fenix-5-series (mainly because it is part of this forum), but when I am buying I always read about the subject so you may have known this is fenix 3 platform. I would also like to have music and Garmin pay now, but I also have to accept fact, that our fenix-5-series generation will never have it and each of us here compares the new features of new generation and thinking if it woth to upgrade, although the old watch is still working, or not yet. Many folks who were here on this forum you now find in fenix 6 forum.

This is exactly why it doesn't worth to spend too much on polished technological toys, as technology is getting old. If you would have bought fenix 5 for half price (focusing on features only), you can have now probably fenix 6, for second half of budget. But this is it, this watch targeted people, who wanted to have features in elegant body fitting to suit, who are able to pay the delta for having the same watch for sport, but they also have to accept,  that it will get technologically old.

I personally like expensive mechanical watches to wear to suit and I have few at home, those ones still keep their value. This Chronos, MARQ etc I wouldn't go for, because it is not that level of watch to wear to suit for me anyway (I prefer my Omega) and I rather upgrade technology and sell old generation piece out rather than having it for 10 years.
