Garmin ignoring v21 battery problems?

I've tried both phone and email contact but Garmin seems to have given up on support for problems with v21 firmware draining the battery excessively? It's three times as bad as it was on v20. The GPS is also much worse, jumping around all over the place when running the same course.

Really disappointed, this is an premium product still under warranty and Garmin has gone silent.

  • Hi there,

After I contacted support they said there was no ticket for such issue with this firmware, I was asked to send the watch back so it could be replaced with another unit, it should arrived next week I don't know what to think, first warranty due to the corrosive pin (battery worked fine btw), and then a replaced unit with this battery drain, so a second warranty replacement within a week.

  • Has anyone with the battery issue noticed that it goes away after a period of operation? Also what models are people seeing this with? I am wondering if it eventually gets back to normal and people are not coming back to update us?

  • Today I received info that my watch left the warranty shop, will get it tomorrow. I will post update.

  • OK so I got my replacement unit, it arrived with firmware version 19.10 but the BatteryInfo widget showed some drain. This is what i did:

    1. Uninstall app from phone, remove all data and cache data.

    2.Reinstall the app.

    3.Update watch to 21.

It seems like a working fix for me, per hour drain is like 0,5%  - 0,2% per hour wchich seems similar to my original unit. This trend holds for a couple od hours. Dont know if there was a fix  in firmware in a meantime.

  • First charging cycle with v21 was not good.fenix5 from 100% to 50% was ok bat from 50% the watch went to 4% extremely fast ,3 hours, and fenix 5 closed.

Second charging cycle batteryfenix5 was very stable.the watch went 10 days with 5 hours run mode.now i m in third charging cycle.

This is the only thing i notice in v21 until now. All the others things is nomal including gps behaviour. Calories rest remain out of range . Altimeter i think is ok for me.

  • I received a replacement refurbished watch and have tested it out, it's wildly inconsistent. Battery is all over the place, and the GPS is laughable - today it logged 4.36km for a 5.8km track despite clear weather and outside. It's completely useless as a premium device for training.

I've had enough of this - the watch has now had really serious problems with firmware for a good 20-25% of the time I've owned it, and not only does Garmin just leave a clearly buggy firmware edition out there without fixing or withdrawing, they're not communicating at all.

I've asked for a refund or a Fenix 6, really disappointed as have been using Garmin for a decade, but at this point I am not sure I will ever again.

  • I have also updated/reinstalled a couple of watchfaces and apps, it seems (more) stable now. Apparently, it makes a difference wether the apps/widgets are (also) updated...

  • i had the same issue recently returned F5x due to issue with backlight and battery drain -and recieved replacement that loses 5% in less than an hour  turned off all widgets and have basic watch face. dissapointing - have garmin replied to you as yet?

  • Yes but now demanding a proof of purchase to do anything. Despite registering the watch as soon as I bought it, which is supposed to be an alternative to the proof of purchase.
