Stuck on orange GPS status circle

Hello

Today my Fenix 5S has stopped locking onto GPS. When I start an activity, the outer circle will not go green - it stays orange. I've left it for maybe 30 mins and it still doesn't change to green. My EPO file is current and I have also tried deleting this file and having Garmin Express recreate it when it syncs. Neither of these fixes work.

It was all fine until my watch crashed the other day and got stuck on the blue triangle screen. I did a hard reset as per the institutions elsewhere on this site. This sorted the crash but the GPS issue seems to have presented itself since.

Anyone got any thoughts?

I am sorry to give bad news, but given the thorough and spot on troubleshooting you have done, you have done everything that can be tried when there is no GPS acquisition.

Have you tried to upload new software, specifically the GPS firmware?

I assume I have uploaded all the latest firmware etc as I regularly sync with Express and allow all updates.

Today the problem seems to have gone - I get a quick GPS fix once more. Who knows why?

When it comes to a GPS satellite acquisition issue, it is impossible to say why since it can be a software or hardware issue. However, when you have a GPS issue, Garmin Express updating the EPO file you mentioned, sometimes resolves the issue. I have rarely had either a hard reset or factory restore master reset resolve a GPS acquisition issue.

Thanks Chris. Good info.

The resets I did were to fix the ‘stuck on blue triangle’ issue, not to sort the GPS.

Seems to be working well again now though.
