Hiding points of interest on the map

Hello everyone,

I was all very pleased with the map function on my watch until I happened to use it for a town centre, and discovered that - even with the "less detail" option - by default the watch insists on displaying all POIs, completely masking the streets, making the map unusable at certain zoom levels.  I never use POIs so I'd be quite happy to delete them, or if there is an option to hide them then I would use that, I just can't find it...

Does anyone have any ideas?

    I thought the built in maps were very basic anyway lol.... 

    Try an alternative map source..... 

    All these are free..... And optimised for Garmin devices.... Great for hiking /city etc...

    The link below, just choose your tiles and your away, this map is good for street routes, but has contour maps, I'd suggest just uploading the transparent contour map from here....if in Europe. 

    Also the actual map tiles are very basic..and should suit your needs...

    If in Europe try these to.... (these are extremely detailed, but are great maps to hike /ride/route to, if your interested. 

    Next link below is to Frikart.... Brilliant map.. My map of choice, very detailed.. Transparent contour and trail lines/ maps built-in etc.... and transparent trail maps to overlay on other maps.

    This one below is a great map to... You can change the map type to "small"(optimised for less clutter with super contrast) for your watch... Just follow the instructions....
    Ps... Remember to rename your map's before you upload them to your watch, as you need to distinguish between them....

    That's kind of you to write such a detailed response! I'm actually using the map from garmin.openstreetmap.nl, but I wasn't sure that was relevant because it's a problem in both. Worse on OSM, if anything. I was looking at the centre of Ghent and the roads are just totally obliterated by the POIs.

    I will try those other ones - thank you.

    No worries... 

    The basic Freizeitkarte map has low contrast... But it also has TYP files to change the map how you like..(just a small program on the site to download) .. The small version has high contrast, less clutter with mostly icons instead of to much text in cities and towns... It runs smoothly on the watch as its design is for garmin watches....

    Hello again - I just wanted to thank you again.  I've been through all these and although the Frikart ones have the same problem as the plain OSM maps, the "small" version of the Freizeitkarten are superb, exactly what I was looking for.  Brilliant.

    Ps... Did you know you can put satalite imagery on the watch as well ..called "Birdseye" from Garmin,you can overlay maps etc on top of the imagery. : -)
