Fenix 5 Series - Mayor malfunctions with firmware 20

Hi folks,

If anybody has any advice, please help.

The following occurred with firmware 20 update:

- Wi Fi not functional,

- GPS Version 0.00,

- Watch freezes during initial 5 minutes of the activity,

- Display data lagging,

- No connection with Windows 10, or Mac OS. The message on both systems state USB device malfunctioned.

I tried the following:

- Turned OFF then ON, several times.

- Performed Hard Reset several times.

- Kept watch outside for hours in order to receive GPS signal.

- Uninstalled Garmin Express and installed again both on Mac and Windows several times.

I've been proud owner of several Garmin devices over the past 10 years, and Garmin Fenix 5 is the first that gave me troubles. The watch is 3 years old, and it was with me during ultra trail and triatlon races. I wouldn't like to let it go.

Please advise!

Hard reset you mean Factory reset via back button?

If yes, my friend,I think you did, what you should, based on above, so next step is to contact Garmin support as the behavior you described seems quite…

Yes, factory reset, correct...Yeah, I think the only option left is to send it for service...I was hoping there is a slim chance somebody will tell me something else, but I guess I explored all user-level repairs...Thanks for your reply.

Contact support via chat first, they may do some diagnostics and they let you send it.

Maybe you could still try few things:

1. Try to install new beta 20.71, maybe the installation of 20 on your watch somehow failed so this manual installation will help

2. If it does not, maby try to use webupdater

Thanks for the info. I forgot to mention in my post that I managed to connect to Windows 10 shortly twice, and then I installed live beta version. Issues were still the same...I will contact Garmin support, and also wait for the next update. Hopefully it will sort things out.
