Fenix 5X won't turn on / charge anymore

After working brilliantly for +3 years, my Fenix 5X won't turn on, won't show a response when charging (even with a different cable, cleaning, resets...)

What can I do?

Where can I get someone to take a look? (Where I'm currently forced to live, Israel, they won't do it).

I also don't know if I should get another Garmin if it will suddenly die and I won't be able to fix it or even try.

(I reached global support but was never given an answer)

Any suggestions?

Thanks

  • I replaced the battery in mine yesterday for the same reason. Not sure how you can get a battery there. You want: HQRP Battery for 361-00098-00 361-00097-00 Garmin Fenix 5, Fenix 5X GPS Watch. Battery Voltage: 3.7V; Capacity: 430 mAh. Make sure it's 430 mAh! Here are the instructions I used: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2LzRzh2GS0. Good luck. There will be many more dead batteries in the near future as the devices age out.

  • I just got a similar problem and something had happened to my display driver. I had Alpha Zulu watchface working ok for weeks and it froze. I had charged to 100% hour before.

i turned off f5x and when it tried to restart there was nothing. I could see the green sensor lights and it was working because steps were changing in Connect. Tried hard reset but nothing worked. I then deleted Alpha Zulu in Connect.

I managed to get 5x visible in Garmin Webupdater program on computer, with 5x cable connected, and it said ‘device driver load’ was available. I uploaded and got back the blue triangle symbol eventually. I then held down light button to power off and pressed stop/start after a few seconds (not visible but you normally get a favourite to power off so I used memory for process).

after another restart I got back default watchface and it’s going.

  • Hello ryanspa.

I can assure you that it is not the fault of Alfa-Zulu watch face.
I assume it is a common problem with firmware 20 and display driver (and maybe 3rd party watchfaces).

    Thanks,

    Markus

  • Just to clarify. I removed Alpha Zulu to go back to basics so I could try and get my display working. A missing display 3.40 was the issue.

I’ll be putting Alpha Zulu back on tomorrow as it’s a good watchface. I just want to see how much my battery drain is at basic Garmin setting.

  • I have the same issue with my Fenix 5X, plugging in the charger began to act flaky at first. I was able to manage by gently squeezing the cable side to side until it started charging. But now after my battery was fully drained, watch won't boot/charge no matter what I try.
Garmin please help us with this issue.

  • Have you actually tried contacting customer support??? I pretty much guarantee thats what you will be told to do here.....................................
