How to get more than 50 waypoints for a course

I have a fenix 5x and have a custom course that has 60 waypoints but get the error that only 50 will be used and the rest won't be.

How can I get turn by turn navigation for longer routes?  50 waypoints is massively limiting and would really reduce the value of the product if this is a hard limit.

  • It is hopelesly limitted. I own a forerunner 935, which is advertised as triatlon watch but I run into this limit very easy.

An other thing is, I cannot find any information about this limit on garmins site, so I have no idea upgrading to a newer watch will “solve” the problem.

It seems garmin doesn’t use it’s own products otherwise they would have realized it is way to limitted.

I think Suunto has better navigation options, but for me the suunto 9 is to big (but you have a 5x, so size would not be a problem) and the suunto 7 uses google wear, which is unusable for various reasons.

  • fenix 5 series (Limitation)
    • 1,000 waypoints
    • 50 routes, 250 points per route
    • 100 saved tracks
    • 10,000 points per track
    • Unlimited points per fit file (limited only by storage space available on device)
    • Connect IQ supported (watch faces, data fields, widgets and apps); Connect IQ apps may fill available internal memory before file limitations are met
    • 5x: 500 custom map tiles
Why are you not using a track for navigation? In a track you could use 10000 points per track!

    What's the difference between a track and a route/course?

  • A track has more points and a route assumes you have a map and follow roads, so you don’t need a lot of points in between.

  • nice list, but it does not contain the limit of 50 where my watch is complaining about.

  • Has the Garmin Fenix 5 the options to make tracks because i cant find them?

    PLease inform.

  • A track is only generated when you record an outdoor activity using GPS. You can create a course and sync it to your watch using either Basecamp on a Windows OS or Mac OS computer or when using the Explore webpage or the Explore APP on an Android or iPhone.

  • @garmin chris. So you couldn’t be bothered to react on the real problem of the navigation limits, but you did up vote yourself.  How sad.
